Get the Most from Your Treatment

Interdental brushingCaring for your braces can help you or your child see quicker results with fewer complications. Our goal is to help you enjoy a healthier, stronger smile in the least time necessary.

What Can I Eat?

The foods that you eat can have a tremendous impact on your smile, especially when you wear braces. With removable braces such as Invisalign or ClearCorrect, you simply take your aligners out during meals. However, it isn’t that simple when you wear fixed orthodontics. For traditional braces, we recommend avoiding foods that are hard or sticky, such as nuts, gums or taffy. Otherwise the brackets or other fixed appliance could snap off of your teeth, due to the temporary bond.

Caring For Your Braces

Oral hygiene is extremely important, especially when you’re wearing braces. Fixed orthodontics like traditional or clear bracket braces can collect more plaque than removable braces like Invisalign.

Cleaning Your Braces

During your visits at our Vista, CA orthodontics office, we’ll show you tools and techniques to keep your smile clean. Some great oral hygiene aids that you may want to use to clean between brackets or under wires include:
  • Proxy Brush
  • Water Pik
  • Floss threaders
  • Rubber tip stimulators

Maintenance of Removable Aligners

WaterpikInvisalign and ClearCorrect alignment trays are relatively easy to care for. Simply remove them at the end of each day to brush and floss your teeth as normal. Then, brush your alignment tray with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm tap water before placing them back into your mouth. We also recommend scheduling preventive dental cleanings at least every 6 months. If necessary, a prescription fluoride may also be recommended to use at home.
